Description
One of the most beautiful places in the eastern United States can be found just outside of Townsend, TN at the end of Laurel Creek Road - Cades Cove.
Prior to the European settlers arriving in the early 1820s, the Cherokee Indians traveled through the valley to hunt deer and bear in the cove. When the settlers arrived they found the ground rich and fertile which was perfect for farming corn and other crops.Although no farm crops are raised in the cove, today deer and bear can be spotted roaming throughout the area.
The Carter Shields Cabin is a popular stop in the cove. The rustic and historic log cabin is nestled between dogwood and other trees including various hardwood along with pines. In the fall of the year the trees turn shades of bright yellow, red and orange giving the cabin a presence like none other.
