Congratulations Lowry! This image has been featured in the Fine Art America group Mississippi Artists And Photographers.

Artist's Description

This old piano in the Presbyterian church at Rodney, Mississippi is a testament to times past. The almost 200 year old church is on a hillside overlooking what is now a ghost town.

Dedicated January 1, 1832, the church has been abandoned for decades. Evidence of the War Between the States can be seen above a front window where a cannon ball struck the church in 1863.

The last full time pastor to serve the church departed in 1923 when membership declined to just sixteen people.

A change in course of the might Mississippi River in 1870 would seal Rodney's fate and what was once destined to the Capitol of the State of Mississippi is now mostly nothing more than a collection of ruins; a reminder of what could have been.
